If you are looking for an Indonesian adventure beyond Bali, use this 7 day Lombok itinerary to guide your stay on one of Indonesia’s most magical islands.

Lombok is Bali’s next-door neighbor and an island that is often referred to as “Bali 20 years ago”. It is a hidden gem in Indonesia that has experienced a surge in tourism in the last few years due to people wanting to see its beauty and authenticity.

The tourism in Lombok is not even close to what Bali experiences, which makes it all the more enjoyable. The streets are not full of tourists, attractions haven’t become packed and unenjoyable, and the beaches offer a private, intimate experience.

Use this 7 day Lombok itinerary to guide your stay! Feel free to change some things around depending on your desires.

What to do in Kuta, Lombok

Explore the Village

Main street in Kuta village. Lombok. Indonesia

The main thing to do in Kuta is to walk the streets and explore. For the main tourist city, you may be surprised by how small it is, and seeing almost all of the city on foot will only take an hour or two.

However, along the way, you will surely stop and admire the interesting surroundings, shops, and attractions. Lombok is very unlike Bali and if you are comparing the two you will really see the differences when walking around.

Go Shopping

Kuta has quite a few shops in the main city center. These range from clothing stores, swimwear stores, natural beauty items, and more. A day in the city offers the perfect time to pick up a new clothing item or replace something you forgot.

Kuta Beach

The main beach that sits in front of Kuta is Kuta Beach. This is not the most amazing beach in Lombok but is worth a view while you are exploring.

7 day Lombok itinerary - two Indonesian style meals

Eat

Lombok has some amazing restaurants that serve a variety of different options. You can find authentic Indonesian food, healthy vegan, Italian, and more. The food is amazing and the prices are even better. You can get a complete meal for around 40,000 IDR (€2.5!)

Here are some of the best restaurants in Kuta:

  • Kenza Restaurant
  • Bamba Restaurant
  • Milk Espresso – Kuta, Lombok
  • Sapori Italain Restaurnt

Lombok Day 2: Seger Beach, Tanjung Aan Beach, Bukit Merese Sunset

Day 2 Overview:
🛵 Rent a scooter and spend the morning on Seger Beach
🛵 Then drive to Tanjung Aan Beach for swimming and snacks on the beach
🌞 Walk up Bukit Merese to watch the sunset

Just a short distance from Kuta are Serger Beach and Tanjung Aan Beach, two of Lombok’s most beautiful beaches. These beaches are the ideal place to spend the day enjoying magical, and private beach day experiences.

Besides the beaches, you will find the famous Bukit Merese Hills which are amazing to hike and for viewing the sunset. With all this beauty and excitement a full day is required to dedicate enough time to explore and relish in the beauty of these spots.

Seger Beach

seger beach at kuta, Lombok island Indonesia

Seger Beach offers stunning beauty, epic waves, and a relaxed atmosphere. What makes it even more special is the fact that it’s not overly crowded, allowing for a truly serene and enjoyable experience. It’s the perfect spot to unwind and soak up the good vibes.

Seger Beach is undoubtedly one of the nicer beaches in Lombok, known for its cleanliness and the absence of persistent beach sellers. While the drive to get there on a motorbike can be a bit hectic, the little beachside restaurant with friendly owners adds to the charm.

You can get to Seger Beach via:

  • By Car or Motorbike: If you’re staying in Kuta you can rent a car or motorbike to drive to Seger Beach. The journey is short and usually takes around 10-15 minutes. A one-day scooter rental costs around 50,000 IDR which is only around €4.
  • On Foot: If you’re in Kuta, you can walk 40 minutes to Seger Beach.

Entrance Fee: As of recently locals have started charging for this beach. ~10,000 IDR to just walk/drive onto the public beach, then another 10,000 to walk up the surrounding mountain.

Need to Know:

  • Bring your essentials: Sunscreen, water, snacks, and cash, there are no ATMs.
  • Respect the local culture and environment by disposing of your trash properly and being mindful of the surroundings.
  • The beach is known for its waves, making it a popular spot for surfers. Be cautious when swimming, and pay attention to any warnings or advice from locals regarding sea conditions.

Tanjung Aan Beach

Getting to the beach

You can get to Tanjung Aan Beach either by scooter or by car. The best and most cost-effective way to get there is by renting a scooter from your resort. A one-day scooter rental costs around 50,000 IDR which is only around €4.

With a scooter, it is best to use Google Maps to this location to direct your way to the beach. The roads are not the best so be prepared to drive slow while avoiding potholes and see some very interesting rural parts of Lombok.

There is also the option to hire a private driver for the day. This is a pretty popular option for tourists in Lombok if you have a full day planned and need to travel long distances.

There is an Entrance / Parking Fee of 10,000 IDR (€0.61).

Beautiful blue water beach Tanjung Aan

Details about the beach

Tanjung Aan is most famous for its vivid blue waters, white sands, and picturesque views. It is one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen and a must-visit for anyone in Lombok.

The best thing about it is that it is huge and isn’t packed with people. You can easily escape down the beach and feel like you are all alone.

This beach offers sunbeds for rent for 25,000 IDR (€1.50) per sunbed. This also includes a cushion and an umbrella. However, you can also eat at one of the local restaurants like the Pink Swing Cafe or Turtle Warung and get a sunbed for free with your meal.

And yes, there are restaurants on the beach and they are extremely tasty! The Pink Swing Cafe has some of the best Indonesian food ever and so many vegetarian options. A full meal costs around 30,000 (€1.80).

Bukit Merese Sunset Hills

Directly beside Tanjung Aan Beach are the famous Bukit Merese Hills. These are ideal for hiking and viewing the beach and surrounding areas of Lombok from above. The views are spectacular and you might even catch some cows and sheep grazing.

Rolling grassy hills with cows on them

Although hiking the hills and viewing Lombok during the day is beautiful, the real specialty comes during sunset. This is one of the best places in Lombok to watch the sunset as it descends into the water.

The viewpoint is spectacular and gives you a show like no other. What’s also great is that, unlike most sunset spots in the world, this one has very few people and you can enjoy the sunset intimately.

Lombok Day 3: Pink Beach

Day 3 Overview:
🛵 Rent a scooter and drive to Pink Beach

LOMBOK INDONESIA, September 22 2018 : Couple tourist enjoy the Pink Beach Indonesia

Pink beaches are rare, with only a few in the whole world. Luckily, one of them is located in Lombok just a short distance from Kuta. This is not as private of a beach as Tanjung Aan as people are drawn to see the pink-hued sand that is so rare.

But private or not, it is still an amazing sight to see and well worth a day’s visit during your 7-day Lombok itinerary

How to get to pink beach

Pink Beach is located quite a distance from most of Lombok’s attractions but making the journey is well worth it. You can get here either by a private driver or by a scooter.

The drive is around 1.5 hours, so use your best judgment when deciding on the mode of transportation you prefer. With a private driver, you can have a more enjoyable journey and can even stop along the way if anything catches your eye.

Things to know

As mentioned the pink beach is not as private as Lombok’s other beaches as it is a very popular tourist spot. The beach has an entrance fee of 50,000 IDR (2.91€) which is rare for Lombok but is still worth the visit.

The vibrance of the pink of the sand depends on the time of day. In the morning the pink is more bright and vibrant and it gets less as the day goes on. Keep this in mind when planning your drive over.

Lombok Day 4: Tetebatu Rice Terraces

Day 4 Overview:
🚗 Get up early and drive / take a transfer to your new hotel in Senggigi
🌿 Head on your Tetebatu Rice Terrace Tour

Since you will be moving your luggage from Kuta to Senggigi the best way to get around is with a private driver.

People from around the world go to Bali to see the infamous rice terraces, but what they don’t know is that there are rice terraces in Lombok that are even better.

What makes the rice terraces in Lombok so much better is that they are real and actually used by the Tetabatu community as the main rice-growing fields to feed the village.

While in Bali they are just set up for tourists to view. Seeing the real fields and getting to view them and learn about them from a local perspective is very special.

Tetebatu Rice Terraces

The rice terraces at Tetebatu cannot be explored on your own. You have to have a local guide bring you around.

This is mainly because they actually use the rice that grows in these fields and they don’t want people ruing them, and because getting around them is quite complicated and someone who knows the area is needed.

My tour guide’s name was Roonie and this is his page on TripAdvisor for you to check out.

Rolling rice terraces in Tetebatu

You not only get to see the rice terraces here but also learn about them. The tour guide will explain the growing process, the irrigation process, the different types of rice, and more!

This experience goes beyond just seeing something beautiful but also learning and immersing yourself in their way to life.

Along the way, you will also stop at a waterfall that you can swim in and a black monkey forest. Plus, the people of Tetebatu grow fresh cocoa, vanilla, tomatoes, chili beans, and bananas and you will get to see these fresh products along the tour.

At the end of the tour, you are able to purchase some of the locally grown spices or locally made products to take home. This is a great idea for a souvenir but also to support the local economy.

Lombok Day 5: Waterfalls

Day 5 Overview:
🚗 Get up early and head on a Lombok waterfalls tour
I highly recommend THIS TOUR.

Indonesia is a waterfall paradise and Lombok holds some of the best. The waterfalls in Lombok are huge and untouched by tourism and exploring them feels like a jungle adventure.

The waterfalls in Bali are also beautiful but they don’t hold the same untouched and raw feeling that the ones in Lombok have.

The main waterfalls are located in Northern Lombok and are called Northern Lombok and called Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile.

Therefore, it is best to pack your bags and move to a new accommodation in Northern Lombok to avoid too much travel time and maximize your time at the waterfalls.

Layered water flows, cool air and green scenery are attractions that you can enjoy when you visit Sendang Gile waterfall in Lombok, Indonesia.

How to get to the waterfalls

The best way to get to the waterfalls is with a private driver (~500,000 IDR (€30)) for 8 hours. Or you can get a transfer to your hotel in Northern Lombok and then be picked up by a tour (depending on which one you take).

All about the waterfalls

Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile Waterfalls in Lombok are not just amazing; they epitomize the island’s breathtaking beauty. These cascading wonders are set amid lush rainforests and offer a mesmerizing spectacle.

However, their challenging terrains, hidden locations, and occasionally slippery paths make a guided tour highly advisable. Guides bring local knowledge, ensuring a safe and efficient journey while sharing insights into the culture and environment.

Moreover, guided tours promote responsible tourism, preserving these natural wonders for future generations.

Lombok Day 6-7: Gili Islands

Day 6-7 Overview:
🚤 Book a ferry on 12Go Asia and head to Gili Air.
🐠 Spend the next two days exploring Gili Air and the other Gili Islands!

The Gili islands are some of Lombok’s most famous islands. People often take speed boats over from Bali to visit these islands and spend a night or two enjoying their beauty. The most popular Gili islands are Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air.

They are most famous for their stunning blue waters, beautiful beaches, and amazing snorkeling spots. To really enjoy the islands it is best to find new accommodation on one of them and spend the night.

Where to stay on the Gili Islands (for the next two nights)

The best island to stay on for a lively nightlife is Gili Trawangan and the best island to stay on for a relaxing stay is Gili Air. My favorite Gili Island is Gili Air, I spent a week here and LOVED it!

Some of my favourite accommodation options in Gili Air are:

How to get to the Gili Islands

The best way to get to the Gili islands is by taking a ferry from Lombok mainland to the islands.

💡 INSIDER TIP: Book your ferry on 12Go Asia. This is what I book ALL my transportation on in Asia and it is super reliable and has never failed me.

Gili islands

The Gili islands are stunning and a great place to end your Lombok adventures. Gili Trawangan is the biggest Gili island and is packed with beaches, it is great for snorkeling and admiring the vibrant marine life and is the best place for partying.

Gili Air is the second-largest and a great place for relaxing and snorkeling amongst the coral. While Gili Meno is the smallest and most relaxing.

When to visit Lombok

The best time to visit Lombok depends on weather conditions, water activities, and your personal preferences. Here’s a breakdown of the seasons in Lombok:

Dry Season (April to September): The dry season in Lombok is considered the peak tourist season. During these months, you can expect warm and sunny weather with minimal rainfall.

However, this is the BUSIEST time of the year in Lombok

Wet Season (October to March): The wet season in Lombok brings higher chances of rainfall and occasional storms. While it may rain more frequently, it usually doesn’t rain all day long, and you can still enjoy some sunny periods.

Shoulder Season (April, May, September): The months of April, May, and September are considered the shoulder season in Lombok. During this time, the weather is generally pleasant, with fewer crowds compared to the peak season.
