For as long as I can remember I have loved to travel. My love for travel is what drove me to take part in my university’s exchange program which brought me across the world from Ottawa, Canada to Amsterdam, The Netherlands. I thought my exchange would last the 6 months and after that, I would go back home and everything would return to normal. But sometimes life has a funny way of changing all your plans in the blink of an eye, and for me, this is exactly what happened.
There is the age-old story you hear of people traveling across the world and falling in love with someone from a whole different country, culture, and past. This is something you never expect will happen to you, until it does. Before I left for exchange my friends and family were diligent in telling me “don’t meet a boy and move to Europe“. I told them over and over I wouldn’t but all that changed exactly one month into my Europe study abroad experience.
As soon as he walked in he caught my eye. Now, I never really believed in love at first sight, but the second I saw him it was over. From that day on we were inseparable and although we knew he was from Switzerland and I was from Canada and we were oceans apart, we wanted it to work, and we did.
We have happily been together since 2017 and going strong. Since my exchange and the whirl wind it was, I have moved to Amsterdam and have lived here for two years. I absolutely love Amsterdam; it is beautiful, cultural, and very international. It is also a great city for flights around the world and I can travel anywhere easily for a fair price!
I sometimes find myself waking up and thinking I am dreaming? Honestly,
How did this all happen? How is this my life?
I hope my adventures excite you and inspire you. I want everyone to feel the same excitement I have when discovering a new city and feel compelled to absorb all the intricacies of different cultures, landscapes, and people have.
Enjoy reading my blog.
