Amsterdam, Netherlands
May is one of the most beautiful months in Amsterdam – as an Amsterdam local I know best! The city’s canals are filling up with boats, there are still blooming tulips all around the city, and there aren’t a ton of tourists yet.
While here be sure to head on one of the many day trips from Amsterdam to see more of the country!
Weather in Amsterdam in May: Temperatures averaging 10-15°C (50-59°F). The days are longer and brighter, perfect for outdoor activities.
Special Events in Amsterdam in May: National Windmill Day when windmills across the country, including those near Amsterdam, are open to the public.
Matera, Italy
Matera, known for its ancient cave houses and stunning stone architecture, is perfect to visit in May. The weather allows for comfortable exploration of its historical sites, while still maintaining a lower number of tourists.
While here I highly recommend venturing into Puglia to visit other beautiful places like Alberobello, Monopoli, Polignano a Mare, amongst others.
