The Old Quarter of Luxembourg is the heart of Luxembourg city. It is located on a steep rocky outcrop where two rivers meet. As a result, it is extremely well fortified and only needed fortifications built on one side due to the rivers surrounding and defending it. In 1994 the Old Quater of Luxembourg City was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site with its ancient fortifications and grand importance within Europe.
