10 Best Things to Do in Thulusdhoo, Maldives
Spend a Day on Bikini Beach
One of the best things to do in Thulusdhoo is spend a day relaxing, sunbathing, and swimming on Bikini Beach. This is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen with skinny palm trees, clear blue water, and white sand. Honestly, just lying here and reading is a highlight of my visit to the Maldives and something I suggest everyone spends a day doing.
💡 INSIDER TIP: If you do swim on Bikini Beach be careful of the current, it is incredibly strong!
As a Muslim country, the Maldives has different rules and norms. One of which is designating specific beaches for wearing bikinis – which is why this beach is called Bikini Beach. Be sure to only wear your bikini on this beach and cover up everywhere else.
Explore the Island
Embark on your own little exploration of Thulusdhoo by wandering its charming streets. Exploring the town is one of my favorite things to do in Thulusdhoo to see and experience the unique local life in comparison to tourist life. This is also the best way to admire the flowers that line the streets and take photos of the colorful buildings!
While exploring be sure to dive into the local flavors at Induge – the BEST restaurant on the island with the food you imagine for a tropical holiday (acai bowls, smoothies, etc). Then uncover the island’s unique character with a visit to the Coca-Cola factory, offering a fascinating glimpse into the local industry.
💡 TIP: As a gesture of cultural respect, remember not to wear your bikini in the town and only on the designated bikini beach.
Go Snorkeling
Snorkeling is easily one of the most amazing things to do in Thulusdhoo that will wow you. You can snorkel in two ways: on your own or on a tour.
I was spontaneous in booking a snorkeling tour by approaching a beach stand, where I discovered a fantastic $35 USD snorkeling and sandbank tour within minutes. The intimacy of the group—just four of us—made the excursion more authentic and enjoyable (I hate big group tours). In addition to being a small group tour, we were the sole boat which made the entire experience even more special.
For a more casual snorkeling experience explore the reel and corals just off Bikini Beach. Many people grab their own snorkeling gear and head into the water to admire the corals and fish just off the main beach. This is a great budget-friendly option, or if you just want to go for a quick snorkel.
Watch the Sunrise
Embrace the tranquil beauty of Thulusdhoo by experiencing the breathtaking sunrise at Bikini Beach. As the sun rises over the Indian Ocean, the soft orange hues cast a magical glow on the horizon. You can also swim during the sunrise as the sun does rise over Bikini Beach!
There weren’t very many people out watching the sunrise when I went to see it as the sun rises quite early (5:50 AM during my stay). This made it even more special.
Go Paddleboarding
Embark on a paddleboarding adventure in Thulusdhoo, where the clear blue waters invite you to explore the island’s coastline at your own pace. Rent a paddleboard from a local provider, and glide along the water, soaking in the beauty of the Maldives. This is one of the best things to do in Thulusdhoo to spend a day on the water if you don’t surf.
Watch the Sunset
Watching the sunset is one of the best things to do in Thulusdhoo. The beautiful colors paired with the tall palm trees and crashing waves are beyond anything in your wildest dreams.
The sunsets behind Bikini Beach but the view from Bikini Beach is still super stunning with the changing colors of the clouds and reflections on the water. I loved watching the sunset from Biniki Beach because I was able to swim during the sunset too which is AMAZING!
💡 TIP: If you want to watch the sunset into the water then it is best to rent a bike and head to the opposite side of the island where the ferry drops you off.
Visit a Sandbank
Embark on a journey to Thulusdhoo’s sandbank, a magical oasis in the heart of the Indian Ocean. Accessible only by boat, this secluded strip of soft sand sits in the middle of the turquoise waters and is a sight like no other. I booked my visit to the sandbank from a local tour provider on Bikini Beach($ 35 USD for the sandbank + snorkeling) and was there with only two other people!
At the sandbank, you can soak in the sun, take a swim, or simply revel in the untouched beauty of this amazing spot. A visit to Thulusdhoo’s sandbank is a quintessential experience that captures the true essence of the Maldives secluded, untouched beauty.
💡 INSIDER TIP: Be sure to plan with your tour group to visit the sandbank before the high tide arrives or it will be gone before you get to fully enjoy it.

If your tour allows you also may be able to jump in and swim with them! The thrill of connecting with dolphins in their natural habitat, coupled with the stunning Maldivian scenery, makes swimming with dolphins in Thulusdhoo a magical and heartwarming adventure.
