Once you’re all set, start your journey to Kotor. The drive to Kotor, particularly if you’re coming from Tivat, is incredibly scenic, hugging the coastline with stunning views of the Adriatic Sea. As you approach Kotor, you’ll be greeted by the sight of its well-preserved medieval old town, located right at the foot of towering mountains.

Check into your romantic boutique hotel in Kotor Old Town, and get ready to dive into the heart of Montenegrin charm.

Where to Stay in Kotor

➡️ Hotel Astoria: A boutique hotel offering stylish rooms with unique decor, situated within the Old Town’s city walls.
➡️ Hotel Monte Cristo: A charming hotel with rustic interiors, providing a cozy atmosphere right in the middle of the Old Town.

Day 2: Exploring Kotor

Waking up in Kotor is like stepping into a dream. The morning light gives the cobblestone streets and ancient stone buildings a soft glow, and it is the perfect time for you to explore. After breakfast at your hotel or a cozy café in the old town, you’ll be ready for a day of adventure.

Morning:

Start with a hike up to the Kotor Fortress. The climb is a bit challenging, but the panoramic views of the Bay of Kotor from the top are absolutely worth it. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water.

💡 Insider Tip: Start your hike early in the morning to avoid the midday heat and the crowds. Plus, the lighting is perfect for photography!

As you climb you’ll pass through ancient gates and walls, all while enjoying increasingly spectacular vistas. Once at the top, take a moment to soak in the breathtaking scenery and snap some unforgettable photos.

The price for this hike goes up year by year! When I first started coming to Montenegro 7 years ago it was free, the next year it was 3euros and now its 15 euros each to climb!

Afternoon:

After descending from the fortress, treat yourself to a relaxing boat tour.

Head to the harbor and book a tour that includes stops at Our Lady of the Rocks and the Blue Cave. Our Lady of the Rocks is a picturesque church on a man-made island, rich with history and legend. The Blue Cave, known for its mesmerizing blue waters, is perfect for a refreshing swim.

Evening:

Kotor is known for its excellent wine, so a wine-tasting session is a must. Visit a local wine bar like Old Winery, where you can sample some of the region’s best wines.

For dinner, head to a traditional Montenegrin restaurant. Konoba Scala Santa is a great option located in Kotor’s old town. Try the njeguški steak or the black risotto – both are local specialties that will give you a true taste of Montenegro.

After dinner, take a walk along the marina. The evening ambiance in Kotor is magical, with the lights reflecting on the water. Find a quiet spot to sit and enjoy the sunset or grab a drink at one of the waterfront bars.

Day 3: Day Trip to Perast

Today, you’ll be exploring the charming town of Perast, a gem on the Bay of Kotor. It’s a short drive from Kotor and a perfect spot for a relaxed day trip.

💡 This is actually one of my favourite places in Montenegro! Its a small yet beautiful town full of charm.

Morning:

Start your day with a scenic drive to Perast. The journey itself is a treat, with stunning views of the bay and mountains along the way.

Once you arrive, you’ll find that Perast has a slower, more laid-back vibe compared to Kotor, making it an ideal spot for a peaceful day of exploration.

Walk through the narrow, stone-paved streets, taking in the well-preserved Baroque architecture. Perast is small but packed with history, and you can feel it in every corner.

💡 Insider Tip: Don’t miss the St. Nicholas Church. Its bell tower offers a fantastic view of Perast and the surrounding bay, and the climb is well worth it.

Afternoon:

For lunch, I recommend sitting down at one of the waterfront restaurants. Restaurant Conte is a favorite of mine, with its picturesque setting and delicious seafood.

After lunch, continue your exploration of Perast. Walk along the waterfront, where you’ll get fantastic views of the bay and the islands. Perast’s calm waters are perfect for a swim if the weather is warm, so bring your swimsuit just in case.

Evening:

Head back to Kotor in the late afternoon. Once you’re back, it is best to have a casual evening. Find a cozy spot for dinner, like the rustic Konoba Trpeza, where you can enjoy traditional Montenegrin dishes.

Post-lunch, explore more of Lovcen National Park. The park is known for its diverse flora and fauna, and there are several walking trails that cater to different fitness levels.

💡 Insider Tip: If you have time be sure to visit the village of Njeguši, located within the park. It’s famous for its traditional smoked ham (pršut) and cheese, which you can sample at local taverns.

Evening:

In the late afternoon, make your way back to Kotor. Freshen up at your hotel and then head out for a relaxed evening. For dinner, try the Mediterranean cuisine at Galion, a restaurant with stunning views of Kotor Bay, especially beautiful at sunset.

Enjoy lunch at one of the seaside restaurants. Forte Rose is a great option, offering fresh seafood and local dishes with stunning views of the bay.

After lunch, spend some time exploring the coastline. Rose is known for its clear waters, making it ideal for swimming and snorkeling. The rocky beaches are quiet and less crowded than other coastal spots in Montenegro.

For a bit of adventure, consider renting a kayak or paddleboard to explore the coastline from the water. You can also take a short boat ride to nearby Blue Cave (IF YOU DIDN’T VISIT ON DAY TWO), a natural sea cave with vibrant blue waters that are perfect for a refreshing dip.

💡 Insider Tip: The Blue Cave can get crowded during peak hours, so try to visit early in the afternoon to enjoy it with fewer people.

Evening:

As the afternoon winds down, prepare to enjoy a romantic dinner at Adriatic Rose, a charming restaurant offering local cuisine with a beautiful waterfront view.

Where to Stay in Rose

➡️ Forte Rose Resort – This charming hotel offers a unique blend of history and comfort. The rooms are situated in restored stone buildings, providing a cozy and romantic atmosphere. The on-site restaurant serves delicious local cuisine, and the views of the bay are simply stunning.
