Ah yes, the dreaded long haul flights … There are few things more uncomfortable and unenjoyable than long flights across the world & I do these long flights multiple times a year. I’m sure they aren’t as bad for those flying first class, but unfortunately, most of us aren’t that lucky. Therefore, I have come up with a long flight survival kit that has made these long flights more bearable for me.

However, it is also important to have an understanding of things to do and things not to do on an airplane. This way you not only make the journey more enjoyable but better for your overall health and wellbeing.
Before I start, did I mention I’m terrified of flying? Nope? Well, I am & last time I flew over the ocean my heart rate was over 100BPM for 7 hours straight. Not fun. But, these things also help to calm me down.
Enjoy!
Games
I find having a few fun games that I can play without wifi is super important! They give me something to focus on for a bit, and I can keep going back to throughout the flight. Some of my favorites are Toon Blast, Spider, Idle Miner Tycoon & President.
Entertainment
Most flights I go on don’t have TV’s (yes I know … torture) so I ALWAYS come on with a phone FULL of music playlists, movies, and podcasts downloaded. My music playlists are all made on Spotify and range from Vance Joy, to EDM, to rap (you can never have too much variety). I downloaded movies from Netflix and I usually download about 5. Moreover, my podcasts are my fav form of entertainment and my favorite podcasts are listed in this blog post.
Comfort
I find planes extremely hard to get comfortable on but I have a few tricks that make it a little easier for me. First, I always dress in layers, you never know if you’ll walk into a sauna plane or a frozen one and layers make you able to be comfortable in both. Second, I wear loose comfy clothing, yoga pants, baggy sweatshirts all the way! I also bring a little lavender smelling essential oil to put under my neck. It is supposed to help calm you down and reduce anxiety on planes. This can, in turn, help you sleep!
Sleep is essential for long flights to avoid jet lag. If you end up not getting enough sleep and feel jet-lagged – click here – and follow these tips to overcome it!
Food + Drinks
I’m always hungry on planes, and eating is a nice way to pass some time (bad I know). So I always bring a few snacks on with me. My favorite plane snack is ketchup chips and protein bars that taste like dessert. Also, I always make sure to bring a full water bottle on, the airplane air makes me really dehydrated.
Pre-flight rituals
One of the hardest things for me on flights is fear. I sit in terror for almost the whole ride and it’s exhausting. One way that I’ve helped make myself feel better is by having some pre-flight rituals (some might think this is dumb, but it helps me). The week before a flight I like to listen to a fear of flying hypnosis on youtube before bed. Maybe its a placebo but it helps! Also, it helps me to not touch the floor of the plane. And finally, drink alcohol!!! Nothing makes flying easier than being a little bit tipsy!
